The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for planning, monitoring, and directly supervising pharmacy personnel in the safe, effective, and cost‑effective acquisition and use of medications.
What You Will Do- Direct pharmacy operations, strategies, policies and procedures, the budget process, project planning and implementation, human resource management and committee representation.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, implement and monitor financial controls, and develop staff and services for performance improvement, quality management, evidence‑based outcomes, and set the communication tone, values and culture of the health system.
- Collaborate with clinical leadership to develop drug use initiatives and assure appropriate medication use.
- Execute and consistently implement drug use initiatives and pharmacy care management initiatives.
- Collaborate with system stakeholders to develop quality initiatives, processes and tools.
- Implement and uphold quality initiatives across all pharmacy practice settings, enforcing applicable policies, standards and regulations related to medication safety, management and AR&L.
- Collaborate with pharmacy informatics personnel to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of technology systems and contribute to technology innovation.
- Lead people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals, fostering an inclusive workplace and team cooperation.
- Improve and reinforce performance of others, delegate assignments, clarify expectations and hold people accountable, encouraging workforce engagement and excellence.
- Oversee policy and procedure regarding hiring, evaluation, discipline, and termination of employees, ensuring objectives are completed on time and conform to regulations.
- Achieve pharmacy productivity targets and performance metrics at inpatient, outpatient, and other functional areas.
- Work with the compliance officer to adhere to the Pharmacy Compliance Plan and develop corrective action plans.
- Involve in training pharmacy students and residents.
- Collaborate with designated service line leaders to develop policies, procedures, systems, and communication strategies for compliance with pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Initiate and manage change, removing barriers, communicating vision, securing resources, and modeling innovation and continuous improvement.
- Provide executive leadership for rapid adoption of best practices and innovations for service, technology, and operational systems.
- Ensure workforce planning and leadership/management development programs are in place for long‑term success of pharmacy services.
- Lead on compliance with Ohio law, regulations, pharmacy business practices and accrediting bodies.
- Develop and implement productivity management programs for each area of pharmacy practice.
- Maintain inventory management, drug procurement, and distribution in compliance with standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Refer to department documentation during orientation for specific duties.
- Abide by all requirements to securely maintain PHI, complete annual training and adhere to UH code of conduct and UH policies.
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (Required)
- Master's Degree (Preferred)
- Prior supervisory experience (Preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in the practice area with at least 3 years of leadership experience (Required)
- Experience working with health‑system pharmacy leadership in a progressive and complex health care system (Required)
