Location: Old Greenwich
Real Estate Accountant
Expanding real estate investment and lending institution, is seeking a strong Real Estate Accountant. This individual will assist with cash management, accounts receivable, loans and property accounting for a portfolio of commercial and mixed-used properties. This role also offers close mentorship from a great mentor and significant potential for growth in our highly collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee accounting duties for commercial and mixed-use properties
• Assist in maintaining loan system and database for all loans
• Prepare financial statements for assigned portfolios
• Analyze/prepare annual CAM reconciliations
• Analyze the general ledger for each property and prepare monthly journal entries
• Calculate accruals and adjustments
• Maintain detailed workpaper files on a monthly basis for each investment
• Review results of operations and provide detailed explanations of variances
• Review invoices to ensure correct account coding and expense allocations
• Prepare reconciliations of all cash accounts, reserves and escrows
• Monitor cash balances and request capital funding or distributions, as needed
• Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules
• Calculate real estate tax and operating expense escalations
• Interact with asset managers, leasing agents, and property managers
• Assist in the resolution of tenant billing inquiries with accounts receivable and legal departments
• Compile financial information for analysts during debt refinances and/or sales of properties
• Prepare annual budget and reforecast
• Prepare real estate tax filings
• Interact with various audit firms for annual audits and tax return preparation
Requirements:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• Background in public accounting or private industry within the real estate industry
• Knowledge of Yardi, MRI, Nortridge or similar software is preferred
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Self-starter with strong ability to organize and prioritize
• Strong Microsoft Excel capabilities
• Detail-oriented, proactive team player who can also work independently
