Hands-On Controller – Construction

A growing construction company is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the business. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys being close to the business, working directly with operations, and taking ownership of the accounting function.

The Controller will be responsible for managing the monthly close, financial reporting, cash flow, and general accounting while playing a key role in job costing, project financial analysis, and work-in-progress reporting. This position will work closely with project managers and company leadership to ensure projects are accurately tracked and financially managed.

Key responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations, managing the month-end and year-end close process, maintaining and analyzing job costing by project, preparing and maintaining WIP schedules, job cost reports, and project profitability analysis, partnering with project managers to review job performance, budgets, estimated costs to complete, and project variances, monitoring project budgets versus actual costs and identifying potential profitability issues or cost overruns, assisting with percentage-of-completion accounting, revenue recognition, and construction-specific financial reporting, preparing monthly financial reports and providing management with meaningful analysis of company and project performance, managing cash flow, overseeing billing, assisting with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning, establishing and improving accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial processes, and providing financial guidance to ownership and operational leadership.
