About the RoleFairfield County Millwork is seeking an experienced Millwork Estimator. This is a key, full-time, in-person role for someone who understands high-end custom residential architectural millwork and can produce accurate, well-scoped estimates that set projects up for success. The estimator will report to company leadership and work closely with project managers, drafting and engineering, purchasing, shop leadership, finishing, and installation. The right person will be technically strong, organized, proactive in communication with prospective customers, and able to act as a confident advocate for FCM's capabilities, process, standards, and value.
Key Responsibilities- Review architectural drawings, interior design drawings, specifications, GC bid packages, and field information to define complete millwork scope.
- Prepare takeoffs, labor estimates, material pricing, hardware and finish allowances, vendor quotes, alternates, exclusions, and proposal notes.
- Identify missing information, scope gaps, constructability concerns, and value engineering opportunities.
- Communicate proactively with builders, GCs, architects, designers, and prospective customers to clarify scope, explain assumptions, and support a strong preconstruction experience.
- Price change orders and revised scopes with clear documentation.
- Coordinate estimate handoffs with project managers, drafting, purchasing, and shop leadership.
- Drive continuous improvement in estimating templates, pricing consistency, and scope language.
- 8+ years of estimating experience, preferably in architectural millwork, custom cabinetry, luxury residential construction, specialty interiors, or finish carpentry.
- Strong ability to interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, details, schedules, and specifications.
- Practical understanding of custom fabrication, installation sequencing, veneers, hardwoods, panels, cabinetry, running trim, hardware, finishing, tolerances, and field conditions.
- Proficiency with Excel and digital takeoff tools required;
ProjectPAK, Bluebeam, Planswift preferred. - Clear written and verbal communication skills and proactive nature, with the judgment to ask the right questions before assumptions become cost or schedule problems.
- A detail-oriented, collaborative, builder-minded approach. Someone who can estimate the work and understand how it will actually be built.
