Job GoalThe Director of School Counseling provides strategic leadership to develop, implement, and sustain a comprehensive, student‑centered school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model,
E. O. Smith High School’s Vision of the Graduate, and Region 19’s mission and theory of action. The director ensures equitable access to rigorous academic opportunities, postsecondary readiness, and social‑emotional supports for all students, while leveraging data systems, technology, and emerging tools to improve student outcomes and departmental effectiveness.
- Serve as a member of the school leadership team, contributing to school‑wide planning, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives that support student success
- Ensure that all students receive developmentally appropriate academic planning, career exploration, and postsecondary readiness support.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district policies related to student rights, confidentiality, and equitable access to education, including FERPA, IEPs, and 504 plans.
- Monitor the master schedule, coordinate state and local assessments (e.g., PSAT/SAT, AP, NGSS) in collaboration with school administration, and oversee grade reporting processes
- Utilize systems such as Power School and other data tools to monitor graduation requirements, course enrollment, and student progress.
- Supervise concurrent and early college programs, including on‑campus and partner coursework; oversee NCAA eligibility, postsecondary applications, scholarships, and career/technical pathways.
- Foster strong partnerships with colleges, universities, community organizations, and workforce partners to expand student opportunities.
- Oversee the school counseling department budget, ensuring responsible allocation of resources aligned with program goals.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders regarding counseling services, programs, and procedures
- Earned master’s degree in School Counseling from an approved counselor education program.
- Valid Connecticut certification in School Counseling (067) and Intermediate Administration or Supervisor (092).
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful full‑time experience as a school counselor preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of counseling theory and practice, school law, supervision, data‑informed decision‑making, and student‑centered systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, culturally responsive practices, and inclusive school communities.
- Experience or demonstrated capacity to leverage technology and AI tools to enhance counseling programs and operational efficiency.
In accordance with the agreement between the Region 19 Board of Education and the Region 19 Administrative Association ($134,319–$149,243).
