Overview

The Spanish teacher at IMS is responsible for maintaining a positive and appropriate educational environment in their classroom and executing a program that meets the intellectual and emotional needs of each child. It is expected that the Spanish teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers and the Head of Lower School as well as the Upper Campus academic faculty to teach an engaging, developmentally appropriate language curriculum and to fulfill IMS’s mission of developing, in every child, their sense of compassion, honesty, and respect.

The Spanish teacher will also engage with and contribute to an equity, inclusion, and belonging framework for instruction and assessment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide Spanish language instruction to students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 7, fostering listening, speaking, reading, and cultural competency skills
  • Design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum that emphasizes communication, engagement, and a joy for language learning
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate Spanish language and cultural learning across disciplines when appropriate
  • Create a classroom environment that supports risk‑taking, curiosity, and confidence in language acquisition
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback through written reports using IMS’s reporting system
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a range of learners
  • Support school‑wide initiatives and events that celebrate language and culture
  • Provide After School program support in line with language instruction goals and/or contribute to Upper Campus programming as needed
  • Contribute to the broader life of the school, which may include residential life responsibilities, coaching athletics, and/or participation in the After School Program
  • Attending all professional development days and completing assigned trainings by deadlines as designated
  • Regularly attending weekly faculty meetings
  • Completing student progress reports by the designated deadline

    Holding student progress conferences with parents as designated
  • Fulfilling supervision duty as assigned
  • Completing newsletter by designated deadline
