Position: Student Support Services (SSS) Academic Coordinator, Hartford Campus
Location: Storrs

Job Summary

The Student Support Services (SSS) Academic Coordinator (Student Services Program Coordinator) will coordinate student support and engagement programming, including supplemental academic advising, success coaching, peer mentoring, academic success interventions, and other educational initiatives to improve college transition, retention, and graduation outcomes for first‑generation, low‑income, and underrepresented students. The coordinator will develop and deliver academic workshops, coaching/mentoring, and individual/group advising sessions to help students maintain satisfactory academic standing and complete their undergraduate degree.

The position supports the Student Success unit in alignment with the Federal TRiO grant objectives and reports to the Director for Student Success, Equity and Inclusion / SSS Program Director at UConn Hartford.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and lead the implementation of academic support programming to ease students’ college transition and improve retention and success for traditionally underrepresented students, developing workshops, seminars, and presentations on academic success and post‑graduate planning.
  • Advising students in academic and co‑curricular pathways, including course options, graduation requirements, schedules and major/minor selection; monitor academic progress with other university offices and provide personal and non‑academic counseling.
  • Manage academic support/success initiatives, including peer and professional tutoring, monitoring progress, and analyzing grade reports.
  • Oversee peer coaching/mentoring, recruiting, training, and supervising peer coaches and mentors; coordinate workshops and mentoring sessions for students in academic difficulty.
  • Outreach to students to connect them to campus resources, promote retention, facilitate engagement activities, and advocate on matters related to academic notice, dismissal, and readmission.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus departments to ensure quality advising, programming, and support for SSS participants; evaluate efforts and gather data, compile statistical reports, and maintain computerized files and records.
  • Contribute to outreach, recruitment, and orientation activities for eligible students; maintain accurate records of contacts and progress, including summer bridge and mentoring initiatives.
  • Assist in publicizing and marketing academic support resources and programming.
  • Work occasional weekends or irregular hours as needed.
  • Teach FYE (first‑year experience) course sections.
  • Perform related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three to four years of professional experience in counseling, coaching, and/or advising students.
  • Experience working within a TRiO or academic support program for first‑generation and/or low‑income students.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting academic success services that promote student growth, retention, persistence, and graduation.
  • Experience coordinating activities and events that promote student learning, engagement, and/or career preparation.
  • Experience in data management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, writing, and administrative skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in education, counseling, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in higher education.
  • Experience supporting and/or advising students in a college setting.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to provide general educational support, effectively implement recruiting strategies, and interpret educational records and related information.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

This is a full‑time, end‑dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding.
