Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Services, the Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with student Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in order to promote academic achievement, social emotional development, communication, behavioral regulation, executive functioning, adaptive functioning, and student access across educational settings.
Essential Functions- Provides specialized instruction aligned with student IEP goals and objectives in individual, small group, inclusive, and specialized instructional settings.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and revises Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with district procedures and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Participates in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and collaborates with educational staff, families, related service providers, and outside agencies regarding student programming and progress.
- Conducts educational assessments, curriculum based measures, progress monitoring, and other evaluation activities consistent with certification, district procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Implements accommodations, modifications, specialized instruction, transition supports, behavior intervention plans, executive functioning supports, and other services identified within student IEPs.
- Assists in the development and implementation of age appropriate transition planning and services as required by state and federal regulations.
- Collects, analyzes, and maintains student performance data to monitor progress toward IEP goals and objectives and support data driven instructional decision making.
- Collaborates with general education teachers and related service providers to support student access to the general education curriculum and implementation of services within the least restrictive environment (LRE).
- Utilizes positive behavioral supports, de-escalation strategies, and trauma informed practices to support student success and access to instruction.
- Maintains accurate and timely special education records including service logs, progress monitoring data, evaluation information, attendance records, and compliance documentation in accordance with district procedures and state and federal special education requirements.
- Maintains special education records, timelines, compliance documentation, and service data utilizing CTSEDS and other district data management systems.
- Supports students' social emotional, behavioral, communication, adaptive, and functional needs consistent with district programming and student IEPs.
- Utilizes assistive technology, instructional technology, and educational software applications to support student learning and access.
- Encourages family involvement in student learning and maintains ongoing communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, programming, and supports.
- Coordinates and collaborates with outside agencies, community providers, and state agencies as appropriate.
- Maintains confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and district procedures.
- Assists in the implementation of inclusive educational practices and provides consultation and support to educational staff as appropriate.
- Participates in professional development activities and remains current regarding instructional practices, behavioral supports, special education regulations, and educational best practices.
- Demonstrates ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary educational teams.
- Assists in the orientation and support of new staff members as appropriate.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional materials, supplies, and equipment and maintains inventory records as required.
