Instruct students in Physical Education and Health to broaden learning experiences, support development, and meet high expectations. Create a student-centered, problem-based learning environment, collaborate in a diverse setting, and maintain effective communication with parents.
Responsibilities- Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Danbury Board of Education.
- Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines.
- Manage classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a conducive learning environment.
- Prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners.
- Demonstrate strong content knowledge of Physical Education.
- Maintain accurate records as required.
- Conduct parent/teacher conferences.
- Assess student learning continually and identify intervention areas if needed.
- Keep parents up-to-date on student progress through interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences.
- Design instruction for individual and small group settings as needed.
- Implement assessments that measure progress and refine curriculum and instruction.
- Maintain a positive learning environment encouraging open communication.
- Maintain a positive school community image encouraging ethical student behavior.
- Assist in selection of textbooks, equipment, and other materials.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships.
- Participate in professional learning through seminars and workshops.
- Demonstrate knowledge of teaching methods, materials, and educational practices for secondary school Physical Education.
- Experience working with adolescent students in a diverse school setting.
- Experience with team teaching in a multicultural environment.
- Effective oral and written communication.

- Organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Prior teaching experience preferred.
- Active 044
CDE Physical Education Certification and 043 Health Certification (Conn. State Dept. of Education). - Bachelor's Degree in Education or Physical Education.
- Experience teaching high school classes, team teaching, and urban setting.
- Human relations skills working with students, parents, administrators, and staff.
- Knowledge of secondary school teaching methods, materials, and practices.
- Ability to prepare effective lesson plans.
- Alternative qualifications may be considered by the Superintendent or Board.
Salary:
Determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education.
