Location: Storrs

E.O. Smith High School is looking for a motivated, energetic, and thoughtful individual to become the Coordinator of the Student Center (SC). This teacher leadership role is essential for supporting consistent school attendance and coordinating academic supports, including Academic Study Halls (ASH) and Peer Tutoring. The SC is centrally located in the Library Media Center and is partially staffed by additional certified teachers.

Qualifications
  • Must hold a Connecticut certificate in any academic area or as a School Counselor (#068), Social Worker (#071), or School Psychologist (#070).
  • Preferred experience in providing SRBI Tier 2/3 supports.
  • Preferred three or more years of successful secondary level teaching experience.
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to work effectively with all stakeholders.
Program Goals
  • Coordinate and support student participation in academic interventions, including ASH and Peer Tutoring.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Family and Community Partnerships to develop and facilitate transition support (R.E.A.C.H. program) students struggling with regular school attendance. The Student Center will be a hub for these students.
  • Develop and manage a Peer Tutoring program for all subjects.
  • Support staff professional development in Tier 1 instruction to better meet all learners' needs.
  • Coordinate the use of Student Center staff, including potential interns from higher education.
  • Work with school administration to expand the Student Center's capacity to support student attendance and academic intervention.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Principal and the administrative team to ensure the SC operates smoothly and meets its program goals.
  • Support coordination and implementation of R.E.A.C.H. program to monitor and support students struggling with regular school attendance.
  • Ensure students are engaged in purposeful learning through academic interventions.
  • Involve staff and families in planning and administering support for students receiving interventions.
  • Actively participate in SAT (Tier 2 support team) and CAT (Tier 3 support team) meetings to identify and develop support plans for students.
  • Collaborate with academic Honor Societies advisors to support the Peer Tutoring program.
  • Develop systems to increase student involvement in the EOS learning community through ASH and Peer Tutoring.
  • Implement systems to assess program usage and effectiveness.
  • Make recommendations for SC improvements as needed.
  • Update staff on the SC program and its role in supporting student attendance and academic intervention
Salary

In accordance with the agreement between the Region 19 Board of Education and the Region 19 Teachers’ Association, the 2024-25 salary range is $51,756 - $102,964.
