Special Education Teacher – South Elementary School Position Summary
South Elementary School is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Under the direction of the Special Education Administrator, the teacher will work collaboratively with a skilled team of professionals, including related service personnel and teaching assistants, to provide specialized instruction tailored to students with complex learning profiles, including Autism, Down Syndrome, and Intellectual Disabilities.

- Provide direct instruction to students requiring special education services.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Management Plans.
- Prepare progress reports, year-end evaluations, and administer pre- and post-assessments as needed.
- Collaborate with the team to conduct multidisciplinary evaluations as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including IEPs, data collection, and evaluation reports.
- Coordinate student schedules with other staff members and administration.
- Manage and oversee Teaching Assistants' responsibilities and schedules.
- Foster effective communication with administration, staff, and parents/guardians to support student success.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Holds or is eligible for Connecticut State Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
- Experience working with students of varied abilities, including those on the Autism spectrum.
- Proficiency in data collection and analysis to inform instructional decisions.
