Job DescriptionThis employee implements the objective of the Smart Start Grant, including curriculum implementation, interagency coordination, parent education, and other activities related to early childhood education.
Position RequirementsBachelor’s Degree (Master’s Preferred) and CT Teaching Certification in at least one of the following:
- 112 Integrated Early Childhood/Special Education, Birth – K
- 113 Integrated Early Childhood/Special Education, N/K through grade 3
- 001 PreK-Grade 8
- 002 PreK-Grade 6
- 003 PreK-Grade 3
- 008 PreK- K
- Maintain confidentiality concerning children, families, and faculty.
- Maintain professional dress code.
- Report to work on time, maintain good attendance, and communicate with the Program Manager regarding absences or time off.
- Interact frequently, affectionately, and respectfully with children.
- Respect and observe children’s interests and intervene as needed to maintain safety.
- Be available and responsive to children’s needs, questions, and requests.
- Follow safety and health rules of the program.
- Supervise children at all times; maintain awareness of the entire group while working with small groups or individuals.
- Know the number of children in your group and maintain required ratios.
- Complete appropriate paperwork such as incident and accident reports.
- Keep activity areas organized and safe.
- Be able to lift 40 pounds.
- Assess curriculum needs; review existing curriculum and develop curriculum using Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards.
- Suggest material modifications and equipment adaptations when needed.
- Provide feedback to the building principal/program manager regarding curriculum implementation.
- Participate on the Smart Start Engagement Council.
- Coordinate efforts of the councils that identify needs of at‑risk preschoolers.
- Identify support services for parents of at‑risk children.
- Coordinate training in parenting skills for parents of at‑risk children.
- Identify activities for parent–child interaction to facilitate carryover of school activities at home.
- Develop transition procedures for preschool students entering kindergarten.
- Assist with development of the annual preschool grant application.
- Identify appropriate evaluation instruments for at‑risk preschool students.
- Attend professional development trainings related to preschool education.
- Assist with expansion of preschool programs and services within the district.
- Complete required reports and maintain data.
