Responsibilities

Instruct in accordance with the Naugatuck teacher job description.

Develop and deliver the comprehensive school counseling curriculum.

Assist students in academic issues, career planning, and social/emotional development.

Provide individual and small group counseling within the scope of certification.

Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to meet student needs.

Confer with families and professional contacts for the best interests of students.

Plan, evaluate, and revise the school counseling program.

Pursue continuous professional growth to stay abreast of the field.

Promote and advise students and parents on progress toward promotion, graduation, ranking, GPA, scholarships, and awards.

Prepare students for the transition to post–high‑school activities.

Advocate for participation in standardized testing programs.

Meet with students who are failing courses and contact their parents.

Meet each student in the case load at least once during the school year.

Cooperate with the Dean of Students to counsel students with excessive absences or tardies.

Perform additional duties within the scope of employment and certification.

Qualifications

Certification in school counseling/guidance.

Reports to: Building principal and appropriate supervisor
