Assistant Principal Position at Riverside Elementary School
Greenwich Public Schools seeks an Assistant Principal for Riverside Elementary School beginning the 2026-27 school year. Home to approximately 475 students enrolled in Grades K-5, Riverside Elementary School is a neighborhood school fostering academic excellence in a culture and environment supporting student social and emotional growth. Riverside has been consistently identified as a school of distinction. The Assistant Principal assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and parents.
This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective family, teacher, and child communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and families; and managing budget items. The Assistant Principal serves as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program.
The Assistant Principal acts in the capacity of the principal during the principal's absence from the school. The Assistant Principal assists the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of a school in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.

Essential Functions:
- Assists in developing and establishing the school goals and objectives and planning the school's instructional program.
- Assists in defining and disseminating information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to families, students, staff, and community.
- Assists in developing and administering school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extracurricular activities.
- Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to personalized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.
- Prepares class schedules, master schedules, and extracurricular activities.
- Assists in ensuring that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching.
- Supervises departments as assigned.
- Assists in coordinating the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with special needs.
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resources issues.
- Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs.
- Encourages family involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and families.
- Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms with the school's standards and school district policies.
- Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement, and continued employment.
