About This Role
Winsted Area Child Care Center is seeking a Preschool Education Coordinator/Preschool Head Teacher. The dual-role position involves approximately 75% Head Teacher classroom responsibilities and 25% Education Coordinator duties, which include coaching, mentoring, and supporting preschool teaching staff.
What You'll Do- Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate, engaging, and inclusive preschool curriculum.
- Create learning experiences based on children's interests, individual needs, developmental levels, cultures, and experiences.
- Maintain a safe, nurturing, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
- Use observation and assessment information to plan individualized and group learning experiences.
- Support children's social-emotional development through positive guidance, relationship‑based practices, and appropriate behavior support strategies.
- Work collaboratively with classroom teaching staff to establish consistent routines, expectations, and teaching practices.
- Ensure classroom practices align with NAEYC standards, WACCC policies, CT ELDS, and OEC licensing requirements.
- Mentor and support preschool teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate and high‑quality teaching practices.
- Support teachers in maintaining classroom documentation and preparing for NAEYC accreditation reviews and OEC licensing inspections.
- Assist teachers with curriculum planning, classroom environments, learning centers, daily schedules, and transitions.
- Serve as a professional role model who promotes teamwork, reflective practice, accountability, and a positive workplace culture.
- An associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- Experience with NAEYC accreditation process, classroom observations, documentation, and continuous quality improvement.
- Strong working knowledge of CT OEC child care licensing regulations and requirements.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to balance classroom teaching responsibilities with coaching and program leadership responsibilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, administration, families, consultants, and community partners.
- Experience using child observation and assessment information to guide curriculum and instruction.
- Must clear a full background check and must pass a health screening per OEC licensing regulations.
- Lift up to 50 lbs and perform other physical tasks related to an early childhood environment, including the ability to kneel, bend, squat, and crawl.
- A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- Experience with Teaching Strategies GPLD or a comparable early childhood assessment system.
- Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Medication certification.
