Danbury Public Schools serves a diverse community of over 12,000 students in PreK–12 programs citywide, and is seeking a highly qualified, innovative, and student-centered instructional leader to serve as Assistant Principal for Park Avenue Elementary School.
Park Avenue Elementary is a culturally rich K–5 learning community focused on providing all students with equitable access to high-quality learning experiences. With a dedicated staff, active families, and a strong school culture, the school is committed to supporting the academic, social‑emotional, and developmental needs of all learners. The Assistant Principal plays a key role in leading and supporting instructional improvement, maintaining a positive school climate, and fostering strong relationships with staff, students, and families.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of a School Improvement Plan that is data‑driven, equity‑focused, and aligned with district goals.
- Support the school’s vision and Danbury’s Portrait of the Graduate, helping to advance transformational learning experiences.
- Promote student achievement, high‑quality instruction, and a nurturing school climate with a strong emphasis on social‑emotional learning and restorative practices.
- Assist with recruitment, hiring, and supervision of high‑quality and diverse staff; conduct evaluations in alignment with district expectations.
- Collaborate with district leaders to support English Learners and students with disabilities; actively engage in SRBI implementation and intervention strategies.
- Oversee and participate in PPT and 504 meetings in partnership with special education staff.
- Partner with families and the school community to foster meaningful engagement and communication.
- Support building operations, including student safety, facilities management, and coordination with custodial and security personnel.
- Monitor student attendance, discipline, and behavior interventions in alignment with board policy and best practices.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of school‑based records and reports.
- Serve as a collaborative member of the administrative team and perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent’s designee.
- Valid Connecticut Intermediate Administrator (092) Certification required.
- 3–5 years of exemplary teaching experience; prior leadership or administrative experience preferred.
- A track record of strong academic achievement as a teacher or leader and a desire to improve outcomes for all students.
- Understanding of Illustrative Math and/or ARC Core Reading programs preferred.
- Demonstrated success working with diverse student populations; urban district experience strongly preferred.
- Strong data analysis skills and understanding of formative and summative assessment tools.
- Familiarity with SRBI, restorative practices, and inclusive instructional strategies.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to foster a safe, positive, and inclusive school environment.
- Commitment to equity, continuous improvement, and culturally responsive leadership.
This is a full‑year, 206‑day position as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Danbury School Administrators Association (DSAA) and the Danbury Board of Education.
SalaryAnnual salary range: $147,187 – $162,861, depending on experience, as provided by the collective bargaining agreement.
