Kent Center School, a member of Regional School District One, is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Grades 5-6 Science Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will inspire curiosity, foster scientific thinking, and provide engaging, standards-based instruction that supports the academic and social-emotional growth of all students.

Position

Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Grades 5-6 Science Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality science instruction aligned with the Connecticut Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The teacher will create an engaging, inclusive learning environment that promotes inquiry, critical thinking, collaboration, and academic achievement while supporting the diverse needs of all learners.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required;
Master's degree preferred. Must hold or be eligible for a valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate with an Elementary Education (305) endorsement or an appropriate Middle Grades Science endorsement (Grades 4-8). Experience teaching upper elementary or middle school students preferred. Knowledge of the Connecticut Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), inquiry-based instruction, and differentiated instructional practices preferred. Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Must successfully complete federal and state background checks.

Essential Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based science instruction for students in Grades 5 and 6. Implement district curriculum aligned with the Connecticut Next Generation Science Standards. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of students. Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, and other student support plans. Foster a safe, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment that encourages inquiry, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative assessments and use assessment data to guide instructional decisions. Maintain accurate student records and complete required documentation in a timely manner. Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom learning. Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, interventionists, specialists, and administration to support student success. Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning, MTSS meetings, and other district and school initiatives.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary Range: $51,175 - $112,517, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits and working conditions are provided in accordance with the Kent Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
