Position Overview
The Humanities Tutor supports high school students in English Language Arts and related content areas, including social studies and electives, by providing remediation, academic support, and assistance with missed work. This role focuses on strengthening literacy, comprehension, and critical thinking skills while collaborating with teachers and support staff.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized and small-group tutoring in ELA, social studies, and related subjects
- Support students with reading comprehension, writing, organization, and analysis skills
- Assist students in completing and understanding missed assignments and coursework
- Initiate tutoring sessions proactively based on student needs and referrals
- Collaborate with English, social studies, elective, and special education teachers to align support with classroom instruction
- Communicate regularly with teachers regarding student progress, challenges, and needs
- Foster a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Bachelor's degree in English, education, social studies, or related field (or currently pursuing)
- Experience working with high school students preferred
- Strong reading, writing, and communication skills
- Ability to support students in organizing and expressing their ideas clearly
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and support staff
- Self-directed and proactive in initiating student support
- Experience with writing instruction and feedback
- Familiarity with scaffolding strategies for diverse learners
- Comfort supporting interdisciplinary coursework and projects
