Bethany Community School has a need for a grant funded full-time Special Education Inclusion Coach for the  school year.

Reports To: Director of Special Services, Curriculum, and Instruction

Terms of Employment & Benefits: Per current Bethany Education Association Contract.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Support teachers in writing high quality, rigorousIEP aligned to state and national standards.
  • Conduct ongoingreviews of IEPs and procedures.
  • Provide consultation to teachers on matters related to differentiated instruction and providing accomodations.
  • Prepare and present assessment data and a summary of findings for PPT, case review, data team, and grade-level meetings, as required.
  • Communicate student progress effectively to staff, parents, and students.
  • Serve as a coach for teachers to model and advise on effective instructional practices.
  • Assist in the selection of instructional models, materials, resources, and educational software programs for the Special Education Department.
  • Assist in the development of the special education budget and budget requests
  • Process purchase orders and receipt for instructional materials.
  • Maintain an inventory of instructional materials and resources.
  • Recommend, develop and deliver professional learning activities that align with District/School goals.
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and present school-wide and grade-level assessment data.
  • Participate in Kindergarten Screening and assist with the analysis to identify students needing support.
  • Assist with the training and administration of state standardized testing.
  • Assist in the design and evaluation of the District/SchoolMTSS process.
  • ProvideMTSS process support, as needed.
  • Provide individual and/or small group support designed to meet the needs of students as needed.
  • Monitor student progress by compiling and analyzing data utilizing a variety of monitoring tools.
  • Administer formal and informal diagnostic assessments, as needed.
  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons using a variety of scientific research-based resources and materials, including educational technology and software programs.
  • Use technology to chart frequency, outcomes, and student progress.
  • Compile data, maintain files, and monitor student progress.
  • Utilize student achievement data to make instructional decisions.
  • Provide timely reports to the Director of Special Services, Curriculum, and Instruction and
  • Assist the Director of Special Services, Curriculum, and Instruction with the development of budget requests.
  • Provide professional development to staff on various intervention strategies, programs, and progress monitoring tools.
  • Provide direction for the design and maintenance of the Special Education website.
  • Attend meetings outside of the normal workday, as needed.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate behavior standards for students.
  • Chair and attend PPT meetings as an adminstrative designee
  • Finalize IEPs and ensure compliance to established timelines
  • Review progress marks and provide feedback to teachers
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills.
  • Keep abreast of current topics in education.
  • Participate in continuing professional development and additional training, as required.
  • Collaborate with other districts.
  • Attend regionalspecial education councils, as required.
  • Proficient use of employee technology resources in accordance with District policies and procedures (e.g., email, District web applications, online training, etc.).
  • Proficient use of instructional technology to meet students’ needs (e.g., SMART Boards, assistive technology, computers, educational software platforms, etc.).
  • Comply with state and federal mandates, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Promote and maintain confidentiality regarding records and documentation.
  • Comply with the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility for Teachers.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director or Superintendent

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive Special Education, PreK–12 Certification(165), required
  • Intermediate Administration or Supervision Certificate(092), preferred
  • Coaching experience preferred
  • Evidence of effectiveness in improving academic achievement for students assessed as being below proficiency in reading and/or mathematics.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Demonstrated personal growth and professional development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and research related to the theory and practice of intervention in literacy and mathematics for students in need.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
