The College of Engineering at the University of Connecticut seeks a full-time professional staff member to serve as Director of Engineering Student Engagement. As a student-facing position, the modality of this position is hybrid, with significant on-campus expectations and limited opportunities forremote work. Based on programming needs, attendance at occasional evening/weekend events may also be required. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, this position provides strategic leadership for high-impact educational experiences that enhance undergraduate engineering student engagement, success, leadership development, and global learning.
The Director oversees several signature College initiatives, including the Engineering House Learning Community, the International Engineering Program, and engineering dual-degree partnerships. The position develops and manages programs that foster academic success, student belonging, intercultural competence, and leadership development, while collaborating with faculty, academic departments, Residential Life, Global Affairs, Student Affairs, and other campus partners.
The Director supervises student staff and graduate assistants, manages program budgets, develops learning outcomes and assessment strategies, and supports continuous improvement efforts related to undergraduate student engagement initiatives and assigned program assessment activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Provides strategic leadership for signature student engagement programs and collaborates with College leadership to align goals, priorities, and assessment plans with the undergraduate engineering mission.
- Directs the International Engineering Program, including engineering and foreign language dual-degree partnerships and global learning opportunities for undergraduate students.
- Serves as Staff Director of the Engineering House Learning Community (EHLC), overseeing first-year and sophomore programming, community-building activities, and academic and social events that promote belonging and student success.
- In collaboration with the EHLC Faculty Director, develops and implements co-curricular programming that promotes student belonging, leadership development, intercultural competence, and academic success.
- Oversees staffing of UNIV courses associated with the EHLC, including teaching sections as needed.
- Collaborates with the Associate Dean, EHLC Assistant Director, faculty, academic departments (including partner language programs in CLAS), Residential Life, First-Year Programs and Learning Communities (FYPLC), Global Affairs, Student Affairs, and other campus partners to plan and implement student engagement initiatives.
- Supervises assigned personnel, including student staff, graduate assistants, and learning community leaders; establishes expectations, assigns work, evaluates performance, and supports professional growth.
- Manages annual budgets for assigned programs; approves expenditures, monitors spending, and prepares budget reports and projections.
- Leads assessment and evaluation of assigned programs, using data and feedback to improve program effectiveness, student experience, and learning outcomes; supports assessment activities as assigned.
- Serves as an authoritative resource to students, faculty, staff, and others on program policies, procedures, and eligibility; advises students on opportunities that support academic success and engagement.
- Recruits students for international engineering educational opportunities, tracks student interest, and in collaboration with the College of Engineering advising team, provides academic advising to students in study abroad programs.
- Develops and implements promotional and outreach strategies for engagement programs, including websites, informational materials, and student-facing events.
- Researches, drafts, and distributes policies and processes related to student engagement programs, ensuring clarity, consistency, and equity for all stakeholders.
- Prepares studies, reports, recommendations, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders regarding learning communities, international programs, and student success initiatives.
- At the direction of the Associate Dean, represents the College at meetings, events, trainings, and other outreach activities involving students, faculty, campus partners, and external collaborators.
