JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the building administrators, the Behavior Support Assistant will focus on responding to Tier 1 and Tier 2 behaviors and implementing a positive behavior management system in order to improve student behavior and enhance academic skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with Intervention Team to enhance student communication, engagement, and academic achievement.
  • Assists students with behavior supports within the building.
  • Participates in all school-wide meetings that involve student behavior concerns.
  • Monitors and tracks students involved with Behavior Assistance services.
  • Assists in designing and implementing Tier 1, 2, and 3 behavior interventions and progress monitoring.
  • Assists students in the development of self-management and problem-solving strategies in the following areas:
    • Interpersonal/peer relationships
    • Development of social skills
    • Peer mediation
  • Implements the Safe School and Positive Climate Plan.
  • Facilitates and documents restorative practices and circles.
  • Implements Responsive Classroom practices and protocols.
  • Implements behavior intervention plans designed to reinforce appropriate behaviors and eliminate inappropriate behaviors.
  • Attends staff meetings, department meetings, and parent conferences as required.
  • Ensures every student has a meaningful relationship with an adult.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Ability to implement behavioral techniques that are ethically and culturally responsive.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and human relation skills.
  • Ability to respect the rights of all students and the rules of confidentiality
  • Prior experience working in a school setting and/or implementing restorative discipline models is preferred.
