Position: Hole Drill Manufacturing Engineer (Onsite)
Location: Hockanum

Pratt & Whitney is seeking an experienced, proactive, and goal‑oriented professional for a Laser Hole Drill and Airflow Process Manufacturing Engineer role in a unionized aerospace manufacturing environment. The position requires U.S. citizenship and a U.S. passport. The engineer will provide technical ownership of hole drill processes and support airflow inspection and cooling hole inspection methods.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, optimize, and sustain laser drilling processes for turbine blade airfoil components.
  • Own the end‑to‑end laser process, including airflow, thermal imaging system, laser preparation, and related tooling.
  • Support airflow inspection processes throughout the shop.
  • Define process parameters, tooling, and fixtures in accordance with established engineering design.
  • Provide on‑floor technical support and troubleshooting in collaboration with operations.
  • Create, maintain, and improve PFMEA and control plans for the grind process.
  • Lead process capability improvements, scrap reduction, and yield improvement initiatives.
  • Author and maintain process work instructions for robust processing standards.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and process qualification activities.
  • Partner with Quality Engineering to ensure compliance with AS9100 and internal standards.
  • Participate in root‑cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Identify and implement process optimization & control methods to eliminate/prevent quality turn backs, escapes, and reduce overall product costs.
  • Utilize statistical analysis tools to perform root‑cause analysis and corrective actions on non‑conforming product.
  • Document problem statements, observations, conclusions, calculations, and recommendations.
  • Lead significant projects critical to improving manufacturing process capability and quality performance.
  • Participate in manufacturing process councils to drive systemic process improvements.
  • Drive manufacturing process technology development, including process modeling, to advance MRL to production implementation.
  • Participate in manufacturing reviews, cold starts, new product introduction, and manufacturing standard work improvements.
  • Manage yield improvements and new geometry introduction while identifying lead‑time/cost reduction and waste elimination opportunities in the supply base.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, Metallurgical Engineering, or Material Science) required.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Proficiency in GD&T and blueprint reading.
  • Experience with Siemens NX drafting, modeling, and CAM NC programming.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Lean manufacturing experience (ACE, CORE, Six Sigma, Red X, RCCA) and process control methodologies.
  • Knowledge of NDT inspection techniques (FPI, X‑ray).
  • General knowledge of NC machines, spindles, axis, drives, and scales (FANUC or Siemens).
  • Technical writing and communication skills.
  • Export control knowledge.
