We are a top-rated cardiac care organization seeking a full-time Cardiovascular Technologist to join our Cardiac Cath Lab in Waterbury, CT. This position is responsible for assisting physicians in performing invasive cardiac, non-invasive cardiac, electrophysiology, and structural heart procedures. The Cardiovascular Technologist will operate and maintain cardiac and radiological equipment, providing care for adult, and older adult populations.

Scope of Position:

The Cardiovascular Technologist is a specialized technician proficient in all phases of cardiac invasive testing and non-invasive testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procedure Assistance:
    • Assist physicians in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures, including Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI) and other diagnostic procedures.
    • Utilize knowledge of cardiopulmonary anatomy, sterile techniques, and testing protocols to assist in procedures.
    • Perform hemodynamic data collection, analyze parameters, and recognize arrhythmias for final diagnostic reporting.
    • Operate computers, monitors, and other diagnostic equipment efficiently.
    • Recognize and report abnormal hemodynamic parameters and arrhythmias during procedures.
  • Actively provide patient care, ensuring patient comfort and safety, with consideration for age-appropriate needs.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records for patient identification and procedure documentation.
  • Provide patient information and comfort measures throughout procedures.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
    • Operate and maintain imaging and radiological equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality before and during procedures.
    • Calibrate and maintain diagnostic equipment, ensuring proper functionality and documenting daily measurements.
    • Handle the injection of contrast media and monitor data systems during procedures.
    • Perform quantitative coronary analysis and left ventricular function measurements.
  • Collaboration and Professional Development:
    • Promote effective working relationships to achieve department goals and objectives.
    • Serve as a preceptor for students or trainees, assisting in their development under the guidance of senior staff.
    • Engage in professional development to maintain current knowledge and skills in cardiovascular technology.
    • Communicate effectively and confidentially with professional staff, patients, and families.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow sterile techniques and maintain a sterile environment during procedures.
    • Adhere to all safety protocols, including blood borne pathogens, radiation exposure, and lifting or moving patients.
    • Participate in Quality Improvement Programs to enhance department performance and patient outcomes.
    • Perform other related duties as required to support department operations.



Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma required.
    • Basic computer skills and ability to access the internet and hospital programs.
  • Experience:
    • One (1) to two (2) years of experience in a Clinical Cardiology setting.
    • Two (2) years of experience in an invasive cardiac catheterization laboratory preferred.
    • Preferred successful completion of an accredited Registered Cardiovascular Program with certification as RCIS or equivalent can substitute for the required experience.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • BLS
    • Knowledge of sterile techniques and working in a sterile environment.
    • Understanding of scientific principles related to cardiovascular technology and primary arrhythmia interpretation.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and confidentially with staff, patients, and families.
    • Capability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to patient elements, such as blood borne pathogens.
    • Physical ability to lift, pull, and push patients and stretchers; standing and walking for extended periods while wearing a lead-lined apron is required.
    • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and pharmacology

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to radiation scatter during fluoroscopy and angiographies.
  • Required to lift and position patients.

Schedule: rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities, required to be within a 30-minute travel radius while on-call.
