Job Summary
The Patient Accounts Representative supports the delivery services and the financial goals and objectives of the organization through effective verification procedures and the effective day-to-day management of financial data.
Job Responsibilities- Verifies patient insurance benefits, effectively calculating deductibles, co-payments, and co-insurances. Disperses this information via e-mail to the appropriate parties.
- Interacts regularly with insurers, ensuring the correct insurance provider and information is timely and noted in the client’s computer record.
- Reviews client census for accuracy.
- Verifies documentation on after hours admissions and follows up on day admissions. Obtains any missing documentation. Follows up on any documentation left incomplete from the client’s initial admission.
- Maintains necessary financial information and inputs the appropriate information into the system. Enters critical client insurer information daily, including company names, addresses, inpatient and outpatient coverage, and special information.
- Upfront financial counseling, working with clients and their families to obtain payment for housing and maintains appropriate computer programs reflecting payments and or payment arrangements.
- Follows up on unpaid claims to ensure accuracy of information provided with initial verification.
Must have medical office experience. High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree preferred. Commercial insurance experience preferred. Familiarity with health care service delivery systems, basic data entry skills with some computer experience, strong customer service skills, attention to detail, understanding of basic insurance procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. Familiarity with Med Series 4, Waystar, and/or past Electronic Medical Billing desirable.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Diplomacy and discretion are essential, as are excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects. Professional demeanor and appearance.

This is a full‑time position working at both locations in Groton and North Stonington.
