Position: Simulation Operations Specialist (Equipment Technician 2 (P3))
Location: Storrs

Overview

The Simulation Operations Specialist provides technical support for all simulation operations, including preparation, maintenance, and repair of computerized manikins (software and hardware), task trainers, and related multimedia equipment. The Simulation Operations Specialist (Equipment Technician 2 (P3)) supports the four simulation laboratories located throughout the state that are used as training facilities in support of Nursing students’ practical training. This position oversees hardware, software, inventory, and documentation and is responsible for providing advanced technical support for the school’s simulation labs, which feature audiovisual (AV) and simulation equipment and systems.

This position is based on the Storrs campus but requires frequent travel to other regional campus locations. The standard work schedule is 35 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday. However, this position also requires a flexible work schedule at times to accommodate changing student and programmatic needs. The incumbent must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule including variations of weekdays and hours worked, occasional evening and weekend hours, and potentially two (2) or more consecutive 12-hour days at times.

Responsibilities Simulation Equipment and Lab Maintenance
  • Maintains and troubleshoots simulation equipment, manikins, task trainers, software, and audiovisual systems across four simulation labs (Stamford, Avery Point, Waterbury, and Storrs).
  • Inspects and maintains the routine security, cleanliness, and functionality of simulation labs and equipment.
  • Manages simulation technology inventory, including ordering supplies and ensuring safe disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Oversees and maintains simulation lab computers, AV systems (e.g., LCDs, cameras, projectors), and mobile devices used in simulation learning.
Simulation Session Support
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to ensure proper setup and breakdown of simulation sessions and skills labs.
  • Participates in planning meetings to align equipment capabilities with scenario needs and course objectives.
  • Provides onsite support for faculty during simulation sessions and assists with troubleshooting during live operations.
  • Routinely visits and oversees simulation operations at the four campus locations.
Interdepartmental Collaboration and Professional Development
  • Stays current with trends and innovations in simulation and instructional technology, particularly within nursing and healthcare education.
  • Pursues ongoing professional development in simulation, AV, and educational technology to support continuous improvement.
Administrative and Technical Support
  • Maintains necessary records and documentation for simulation activities and lab safety protocols.
  • Ensures timely, professional responses to faculty and staff requests.
  • Performs related duties, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, nursing, information technology and three years of related experience; OR an associate's degree in a related field and five years of related experience; OR seven years of related experience in a healthcare, clinical education, or simulation-based learning environment.
  • Experience working in a patient care or simulation environment, including experience with operating or supporting simulation equipment, peripheral hardware, systems, and various software applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard computing technology, Windows, Macintosh, and mobile devices, and associated desktop applications.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills, with proven experience explaining complex and technical processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in nursing, allied health, emergency services, or healthcare simulation.
  • CHSOS certification (Certified Health Simulation Operations Specialist).
