Under the review of the Director of Community Standards, the Associate Director of Community Standards serves to provide innovative leadership for a student-centered campus conduct system. Responsibilities include managing the day-to-day operation of the department; coordination of individual student discipline; development of creative responses to student conduct issues; implementation of a comprehensive educational process for helping members of the University community fully understand their individual and group rights and responsibilities;

and the development of a comprehensive approach to issues of academic misconduct.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the management of the day-to-day operation of the department, including case workflow, staff activities, and supervision of staff, including direct supervision of the Assistant Directors in a unionized environment. Along with the entire staff, this position assists in the development, coordination and communication of The Student Code, the University’s student conduct system. This includes coordinating the timely flow of case resolution, training of all personnel, investigating and resolving violations as an investigating student conduct officer and hearing officer with full authority to issue sanctions up to and including University Expulsion, and coordinating a system to assure compliance.

Day-to-Day

Operations
  • Serve in the absence of the Director of Community Standards and make decisions as needed.
  • Determine and implement decisions on behalf of Community Standards related to the management of The Student Code.
  • Work with appropriate University officials to solve issues and problems that fall within the responsibilities of Community Standards, which include but are not limited to behavioral issues and academic misconduct issues.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend changes in policies and procedures as related to The Student Code.
  • Interpret federal and state laws regarding behavioral acts and University compliance.
  • Collect and interpret data regarding student conduct statistics and sanction effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to develop procedures and educate registered student organizations.
  • Assist students, faculty, and staff in reaching settlements of disputes/complaints regarding behavior. This includes all stages, including information collection, fact-finding, and resolution development.
  • Coordinate responses to behavioral incidents at the regional campuses.
  • Serve as a resource to the University community regarding the interpretations of The Student Code, disruptive students, and make presentations to groups.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of schools, colleges, regional campuses, student support programs, and student organizations regarding policies related to maintaining an appropriate academic living/learning environment.
  • Troubleshoot issues regarding the electronic database system and work with the vendor to resolve issues.
Supervision and Training
  • Lead the Assistant Director team in the planning and executing investigations and resolving high-level conduct matters prohibited by The Student Code, including Federally mandated Title IX (sexual misconduct) and other student conduct-related violations, including, but not limited to, incidents involving alcohol and other drug use/possession, harmful behavior, and student organization misconduct.
