Chief Operating Officer

The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich (BGCG) is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer to lead the day-to-day operations that support high-quality programs and services for thousands of young people each year. Reporting to the CEO, the COO will oversee program delivery, staffing, and organizational systems while translating strategy into action. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a passion for youth development and strong operational expertise who can build effective teams, strengthen systems, use data to drive improvement, and foster strong partnerships with families, schools, and the community.

Organizational

Leadership & Strategy
  • Provide strategic leadership for all programmatic and operational functions, ensuring safe, high-quality, mission-driven services.
  • Partner with the CEO and leadership team to develop, implement, and monitor BGCG's strategic plan.
  • Lead, coach, and develop senior staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish organizational goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and dashboards to measure program quality, operational effectiveness, member outcomes, and strategic progress.
Program & Operational Excellence
  • Direct the design and delivery of all youth development programs — after-school, teen, workforce development, and family engagement.
  • Ensure programs meet Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) standards and best practices in youth development, academic success, and social-emotional learning, with safety embedded in every program area.
  • Lead membership outreach efforts to grow enrollment and expand BGCG's reach into underserved parts of the community.
  • Strengthen teen-focused programming to boost engagement, belonging, and retention.
  • Use data, member feedback, and evaluation to track program efficacy, identify opportunities for innovation, and set measurable outcomes that drive continuous improvement plans for staff.
  • Oversee facility operations to ensure safe, welcoming, and efficient environments for members and staff.
Talent & Culture
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, supervision, professional development, and retention of program and operations staff.
  • Implement performance management systems that promote accountability, leadership development, and continuous learning.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and youth-centered culture aligned with BGCG's mission and values.
Financial & Resource Management
  • Develop and manage program and operational budgets in partnership with the finance team.
  • Monitor financial performance, staffing, and resource allocation to maximize efficiency while maintaining high-quality services.
  • Support organizational sustainability through thoughtful planning and operational stewardship.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA)
  • Ensure compliance with BGCA standards, reporting requirements, and the Nationally Designated Youth Serving Organization (NDYSO) model.
  • Leverage BGCA resources, training, and best practices to strengthen organizational performance and program quality.
  • Represent BGCG within the BGCA network and participate in national and regional learning opportunities.
Qualifications
  • 7-10 years of progressive senior management experience in youth development, education, or human services organization (Boys & Girls Club experience strongly preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree required; advance degree in education social services, nonprofit management, or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated success leading programs and teams in complex, mission-driven environments
  • Demonstrated team leadership, coaching, and staff development experience
  • Experience using data and evaluation to improve programs and outcomes
  • Knowledge of youth development best practices, facilities management, and safety standards for youth-serving organizations
  • Familiarity with BCGA standards, resources, and reporting requirements preferred
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational leadership services
  • Background in trauma-informed care preferred
