Responsibilities

The House Manager is responsible for supporting the operations and patient‑care services of the organization. They provide immediate administrative and clinical leadership to unit staff and ancillary departments and coordinate hospital‑wide activities as necessary to resolve problems while often working in the absence of unit leaders. Works independently as well as with others. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

  • Overall knowledge of disaster planning
  • Operate and perform basic computer programs associated with record keeping in the Department
  • Read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment associated with delivery of patient care on the floors
  • Work as a team member and communicate effectively with visitors, physicians, hospital personnel, and administrative staff; such dealings may often require significant tact in handling sensitive matters. Work conditions are mentally and/or visually tiring 90% of the time. Involves standing, walking, lifting light‑weight objects and sometimes heavier tasks. Minor straining or fatigue positions may be required.
  • Coordinate and oversee hospital operations and provide administrative direction.
  • Resolve crises and conflicts. Provide analysis, assessment and intervention for problems requiring immediate attention. Inform department managers and directors of problems and resolutions.
  • Investigate problems and complaints from patients, visitors, physicians and staff. Implement appropriate action and follow up.
  • Initial contact person for atypical events. Conduct initial assessment of event. Initiate appropriate action, ensuring stabilization of patient. Ensure notification of risk management, CSI and department manager and director.
  • Continuously assess hospital environment for safety concerns including patients, families, visitors and staff. Take action as appropriate.
  • Attend all Safety Check‑In Meetings Monday – Friday. Lead Safety Check‑In Meetings on weekends and holidays.
  • Coordinate placement of all admissions and transfers. Communicate with Bronson First to coordinate all regional transfers.
  • Collaborate with physicians and Rapid Response to ensure optimal patient placement.
  • Monitor hospital capacity. Manage throughput to avoid delays in patient placement. Implement hospital surgical plan as needed. Provide hospital‑wide communication regarding level of occupancy. Collaborate with ER physicians and ER charge nurse when hospital is at capacity.
  • Lead 0400/1600 Bed Planning Meetings. Work with staffing office to ensure appropriate placement of available staff. Assign or reassign staff as appropriate to maintain safe, competent levels of care in all areas, including placement of sitters.
  • Coordinate communication with outside organizations or their representatives, including other health care facilities, law enforcement agencies and the media. Relay appropriate information according to established policies. Involve public relations in all media calls.
  • Manage initial response in the event of a disaster, crisis or emergency situation. Notify incident commander. Coordinate all activities until incident commander arrives. Communicate with outside organizations or their representatives, including information regarding bed availability.
  • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, including Substance Abuse Policy. Ensure appropriate testing when reasonable suspicion for abuse exists.
  • Answer all calls for Employee Incident Hot Line after hours, on weekends and holidays. Provide initial triage and direct employee to ER as appropriate.
