Job Summary
The School Nurse is responsible for all issues relating to the health and welfare of the students during their attendance at the school, and preparation for off-campus student experiences. The role serves as a liaison to parents on health and wellness issues and provides education/training on health issues to students, employees, and families.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Provide professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates.
- Administer medication to students in accordance with physician orders.
- Support students with medical conditions and share appropriate action plans with families.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians, teachers and other school personnel regarding the health and safety of needs of students.
- Assist with the development and delivery of the school’s health curriculum.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues in accordance with federal and state privacy regulations.
- Collects and manages all student health records using Magnus; and manages annual compliance for records of immunizations in accordance with section 10-204 a-4 of the State of Connecticut regulations.
- Keeping up with all health requirements and updating protocols and procedures.
- All other duties assigned by administration.
- Current Connecticut license to practice either as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
- 3-5 years of previous nursing or related clinical experience preferred.
- CPR/AED Certification
- Experience with Magnus Health preferred
- Ability to provide excellent parent and student support to ensure all parties feel they have received superior care.
- Able to make decisions in a fast-paced environment while ensuring student health needs have been successfully met.
- Excellent organizational, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours when necessary.
- Must have experience with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office proficiently.
- Valid driver’s license.
