School Nurse; Part-Time

Job Summary

The School Nurse is responsible for all issues relating to the health and welfare of the students during their attendance at the school, and preparation for off-campus student experiences. The role serves as a liaison to parents on health and wellness issues and provides education/training on health issues to students, employees, and families.

• Provide professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates.
• Administer medication to students in accordance with physician orders.
• Support students with medical conditions and share appropriate action plans with families.
• Develop and maintain Individualized Health Plans (IHPs), Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and coordinate health accommodations as needed. Provide chronic condition management for students (e.g., diabetes, asthma, seizure disorders), including medication management, monitoring, and staff training.
• Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians, teachers and other school personnel regarding the health and safety of needs of students.
• Assist with the development and delivery of the school’s health curriculum.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues in accordance with federal and state privacy regulations.
• Collects and manages all student health records using Magnus; and manages annual compliance for records of immunizations in accordance with section 10-204 a-4 of the State of Connecticut regulations.
• Keeping up with all health requirements and updating protocols and procedures.
• Perform routine health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) and follow-up as required; document findings and referrals.
• Coordinate care with primary care providers, specialists, mental health staff, and outside agencies
• Provide routine emergency coverage support for the Athletic (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). needed.
• Provide assistance with scheduled medical appointments (doctor, PT, lab, x-ray) for students as needed, including transporting students to and from appointments in school vehicles per school policies and consent.
• All other duties assigned by administration.

• Current Connecticut license to practice either as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
• 3-5 years of previous nursing or related clinical experience preferred.
• CPR/AED Certification
• Current BLS for Healthcare Providers preferred; maintain certification per school policy.
• Required:
  
  Mandated reporter training. Tuberculosis screening and up-to-date immunizations required per school policy.
• Preferred:
  School nursing certification or public health nursing experience; demonstrated experience managing pediatric/adolescent chronic conditions (diabetes, asthma, seizures).
• Experience with Magnus Health preferred
• Ability to provide excellent parent and student support to ensure all parties feel they have received superior care.
• Able to make decisions in a fast-paced environment while ensuring student health needs have been successfully met.
• Excellent organizational, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours when necessary.
• Must have experience with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office proficiently.
• Valid driver’s license.
