Applications Specialist – Laser TechnologiesHelp customers solve complex scientific and industrial challenges using next-generation laser processing technology. In this role, you will develop laser-based workflows, support groundbreaking applications, train users around the world, and work directly with customers to transform ideas into successful outcomes. Position is based at UCONN Tech Park in Storrs Connecticut with ~ 40 - 50% travel expectation.
What You'll Do- Partner with customers to develop and optimize laser-processing applications that meet specific research, manufacturing, and analytical objectives.
- Design and perform experiments using advanced laser systems, SEM, FIB, optical imaging, and related analytical technologies.
- Troubleshoot technical challenges, refine processing methods, and deliver reliable, repeatable workflows that achieve customer expectations.
- Own customer application projects from initial concept through final results, managing scope, priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
- Capture and analyze imaging and experimental data, document findings, and prepare clear technical reports with recommendations and conclusions.
- Plan and execute technical demonstrations, feasibility studies, and proof-of-concept projects that showcase the capabilities of TESCAN Laser Technologies solutions.
- Collaborate closely with Sales teams by providing technical expertise, application insights, presentations, and customer support throughout the evaluation process.
- Deliver customer training, installation support, workflow transfer, and ongoing applications assistance through both remote and on-site engagement.
- Travel globally to support customer projects, demonstrations, installations, and technical training activities.
- Master's degree or PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Hands‑on experience with laser material processing and operation of SEM and/or FIB systems.
- Experience with ultrafast or femtosecond laser technologies is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to develop processes, design experiments, troubleshoot equipment, and solve complex technical challenges.
- Experience working with advanced materials such as semiconductors, glass, ceramics, metals, or similar materials.
- Strong imaging, data analysis, technical documentation, and report‑writing skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both scientific and non‑technical audiences.
- Customer‑facing experience delivering demonstrations, training, application support, or technical troubleshooting.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Fluent written and spoken English and willingness to travel globally up to 50%.
