Designation: Staff, Part-time, 0.5 FTE

Status: Calendar year, benefit-eligible

Reports to: Director of Safety & Security and Campus Safety and Security Supervisor

Schedule: 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Travel: Minimal

SUMMARY:

As a member of the Campus Safety and Security Department, you will play an important role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, faculty, visitors, and the broader school community. This position combines the responsibilities of a Campus Safety and Security Officer with a primary assignment as a crossing guard at the main pedestrian crossing on Routes 44 and 112 between the School’s main campus and athletic facilities.

In this role, you will maintain a highly visible presence while assisting pedestrians in safely crossing a busy roadway, promoting public safety for the school community. In addition, you will support the daily operations of the Safety and Security Department, including monitoring campus safety conditions, responding to calls for service, assisting with emergencies, and collaborating with local law enforcement, EMS, and fire personnel as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. A friendly, positive, enthusiastic, and caring demeanor when working with internal and external customers.
  • Follow the protocols provided to properly execute crossing guard duties, including, but not limited to, using a portable radio, driving a vehicle, and properly using safety equipment.
  • Alert motorists that pedestrians are in the process of using the school crossing, verbally directing pedestrians to safely cross the street.
  • Present a professional appearance as required by Campus Safety and Security Department policy.
  • Utilize technology, including but not limited to e-mail, card access, fire, and door alarm systems, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
  • Answer phones and dispatch service calls in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Respond to any threat to the safety and security of the students, faculty, staff, and residential families.
  • Immediately respond to all emergency calls, including fire, medical calls, and burglar alarms. Answer all calls for assistance and service courteously, expeditiously, and professionally.
  • Transport students, staff, faculty, and other members of the School community to nearby campus locations or designated off-site areas as needed for safety, operational, or event-related purposes.
  • Patrol School property with an emphasis on problem areas, checking doors, gates, windows, and all points of entry to School property to ensure that unauthorized persons have not gained entry to the premises undetected. Patrols include walking the campus and buildings.
  • Check all campus fire protection equipment on a regular basis.
  • Inspect all campus buildings on a regular basis to ensure compliance with state and local fire regulations.
  • Monitor campus property for safety hazards, report violations, and take immediate corrective action if possible. Submit work orders for repairs when needed.
  • Maintain a complete log for each tour of duty, registering all activity, the exact time service was provided, and all unusual conditions when discovered.
  • Thoroughly investigate all incidents involving the safety and welfare of the students, faculty, and staff; report the results to the Director of Safety and Security both verbally and by incident reports.
  • Work assigned security details at School-sponsored functions.
  • Willingness to cover all shifts as needed to ensure adequate coverage or to assist in an emergency.
  • Assist faculty and administration in enforcing all School safety rules and regulations.
  • Work in conjunction with local police, EMS, and fire officials.
  • Adhere to established School policies and guidelines and follow specific instructions
  • Immediately notify the Director of Safety and Security of all major incidents.
