Introduction

UConn's Facilities Operations Department has one job opening for a Water Pollution Control Operator Mechanic. This position is responsible for independently performing a full range of highly skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of all equipment at the Class IV Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) and all associated lift stations to the facilities located at the Storrs Campus. Incumbents in this class will be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current certificates, licenses, and permits including a Class I, Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator Certificate in accordance with the regulations of the State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), within 24 months from the date of appointment to the Water Pollution Control Operator Mechanic class.

Position

Details

The Water Pollution Control Operator Mechanic position is a permanent, full-time, 1st Shift 40 hours/week position. The work schedule is to be determined based on operating needs; the work schedule will be either 1st Shift Sunday – Thursday OR 1st Shift Tuesday – Saturday. The work hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a paid half an hour for lunch.

This position may be eligible for weekend differential. The hourly rate of pay will be determined based on the employee's current salary/step.

This position is categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Must be willing and able to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations.

This position may lead Water Pollution Control Operator Trainees and Water Pollution Control Operator 1's. Some training may be required outside of the established work schedule and on overtime. Applicants must also be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends, holidays) and may be required to work on holidays.

Facilities Operations NP-2 employees may also be required to perform job duties as assigned at any of the Regional Campuses.

A current motor vehicle license is required.

Performs a full range of duties in the maintenance and specialized operational procedures of equipment and machinery used in Water Pollution Control and Water Reclamation Facilities and all associated lift stations; installs, maintains and performs highly skilled mechanical, plumbing and electrical repairs to equipment such as valves, gauges, non-automotive motors, pumps, timers, switches and relays; designs, fabricates, troubleshoots and installs plumbing and electrical modifications to wastewater and water reclamation process and laboratory equipment;

performs specialized electric and fuel welding procedures to construct facility infrastructure modifications and/or repairs; locates and corrects stoppages or malfunctions in facility; reads and interprets technical drawings and schematics from blueprints and/or equipment diagrams; programs, operates, troubleshoots and repairs pumps and computerized pump control systems; interacts with contractors and vendors regarding equipment…
