Location: UConn Storrs
Schedule: 1st Shift M-F 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (37.5 hrs/week)
Salary: $79,134.00 – $ yearly. (Hourly $40.43 for new state employees)
Job Overview: Permanent, full-time position in Facilities Operations Public Works Shop. Responsible for supervising skilled trades and apprentices in repair and maintenance of all above and underground utilities, as well as site work related tasks.
Responsibilities- Schedule, assign, oversee, and review staff work.
- Provide staff training and assistance.
- Conduct performance evaluations.
- Determine priorities and plan crew work.
- Establish and maintain crew procedures.
- Develop or make recommendations on policies and standards.
- Act as liaison with other units, agencies and outside officials.
- Prepare reports and correspondence.
- Perform skilled duties when needed.
- Make plans and cost estimates of work to be performed.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Supervise highly skilled trades workers and apprentices in repair and maintenance of steam, condensate, water, sewage, storm, reclaim water, and chilled water systems.
- Supervise sitework tasks such as paving, grading, excavation, rebuilding, cleaning catch basins, repair, removal and installation of sidewalks.
- Considerable knowledge of state and national codes and regulations.
- Knowledge of modern methods and equipment involved in the trade area.
- Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Skill in performing technical duties of the class.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and sketches.
- Ability to utilize computer software.
- Supervisory ability.
- Six (6) years of experience in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title.
- Three (3) years of that experience must have included performing highly skilled duties in the trade area.
- Current motor vehicle operator license throughout employment.
- Adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity.
- Requirement to lift, carry, and push material weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Must be able to walk up and down stairs, climb ladders independently, and operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, excavator, skid steer, dozer, etc.
