Job Responsibilities
- Maintain emergency generators and emergency lighting.
- Maintain fence alarm systems and perimeter lighting.
- Maintain motorized gates, fire alarm systems, and emergency power/UPS equipment.
- Maintain cell door control systems, surveillance cameras and recording system infrastructure.
- Maintain high/low voltage distribution system.
- Maintain equipment in kitchen and laundry areas.
- Maintain facility and cell infrastructure wiring.
- Record tool inventory/control.
- Perform snow and ice removal.
- Supervise assigned inmates.
- Repair, maintain, and install electrical systems and equipment such as motors, transformers, generators, wiring, switches, fixtures, and circuit breakers.
- Use test instruments such as ammeter, voltmeter, and VOM tester to diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions.
- Provide instruction and training to inmates assigned electrical maintenance duties, supervise and discipline them.
- Instruct inmates in the planning, layout, and wiring of new installations, and assist with equipment adjustments using hand tools.
- Keep records and complete necessary reports.
- Evaluate performance of each inmate assigned to work area.
- Maintain discipline and enforce security measures.
- Perform supplemental duties related to other trade disciplines as needed.
- Assist security forces in emergencies if required.
- Operate a motor vehicle if required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment involved in electrical repair and installation work; principles and operations of electrical systems.
Skills:

Abilities:
- Interpret and revise electrical wiring and schematic drawings.
- Plan, layout, and schedule maintenance assignments and estimate costs.
- Operate and utilize computerized and automated control systems.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Instruct others in techniques and skills of electrical maintenance work.
- Perform under stress and remain stable in pressure situations.
- Supervisory ability.
- Three (3) years of experience as an electrician.
- One (1) year of the experience at the highly skilled level.
- Graduation from a vocational or technical school in the electrical trade may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
- Experience on a military base, aircraft carrier, or large compound may substitute for the general and special experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Experience in maintenance and repair of existing electrical infrastructure in commercial buildings.
- Experience installing and repairing control wiring for motors, automation, fire‑alarm, security CCTV and data networks.
- Experience inspecting, testing, and repairing electrical appliances including kitchen and laundry equipment.
- Experience with standby generators, transfer switch, and UPS systems.
- Ability to apply the National Electrical Code.
- Experience with Building Management Systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel).
- Valid E‑1 (Unlimited Electrical Contractor) or E‑2 (Unlimited Electrical Journeyperson) license.
- Must have reached the 18th birthday.
- May be required to complete formal training in correctional work.
- May be required to respond to after‑hour emergencies.
- May be required to possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license and to travel.
- General good health, free from disease or injury impairing health or usefulness; sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance, and visual and auditory acuity.
- Comprehensive medical examination, including controlled substance screening, required upon conditional offer.
May be exposed to danger of injury or assault by inmates and to hazards and discomfort of working with electrical power systems.
