Fire Protection Apprentice
Johnson Controls is seeking a Fire Protection Apprentice to install and maintain fire suppression systems for commercial and industrial applications. This entry‑level position is part of the company’s approved Apprenticeship Program.
Key Responsibilities- Assist foreman in the installation of wet, dry, pre‑action, and deluge sprinkler systems.
- Learn and assist with the installation of fire protection piping, valves, and accessories.
- Follow all safety policies and maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Maintain proper documentation for work performed.
- Carry, move, and lift equipment and tools weighing up to 70lbs and perform physical labor as required.
- Work in unconventional positions, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, and operating high‑lift equipment.
- Adhere to company safety policies and procedures, and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and the ability to learn quickly.
- Enrolled in Grinnell’s approved Apprenticeship Program and maintain all apprenticeship standards.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age 18 years.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to the employer’s place of business or job site, as well as to the classroom instruction location.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program, with or without a reasonable accommodation, without posing a direct threat to health and safety.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Hourly rate: starting at $22.00, varying by experience, education, skills, and market alignment. This salary range reflects the target compensation; exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered above the range.
