Newton-Conover City Schools is seeking a dynamic leader for a dynamic school, Conover School. REQUIRED:
  • Must have a NC Principal License.

General

Purpose:

To serve as the chief administrator of a school in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities of a principal include, but are not limited to:

Curriculum and Instruction:
  • Ensure that teachers are teaching from the North Carolina State Standards and Essential Standards
  • Foster an environment conducive to Personalized Learning
  • Develop remediation and enrichment plans to meet the needs of students
  • Constantly review and research programs that may be beneficial to the learning environment of the school
  • Collaborate with teachers about best practices for instruction
  • Evaluate and purchase appropriate instructional resources
Student Affairs:
  • Develop and enforce a school-wide student discipline policy
  • Evaluate student performance to determine the promotion or retention of each student
  • Constantly evaluate student progress
  • Implement the MTSS process for engaging every student in the school
  • Ensures the safety of students by establishing an appropriate supervision schedule
  • Implements crisis response in accordance with district safety procedures and policies
  • Serve or assign an appropriate person to serve as the LEA representative for IEP meetings
Staff Growth:
  • Conduct teacher, teacher assistant, custodian, and other staff evaluations as required
  • Develop growth plans or action plans as needed for teachers or other staff
  • Perform walk-throughs to help teachers improve their instruction (not evaluative)
  • Implement appropriate professional development opportunities based on the needs of the staff
  • Maintain a collaborative culture to create a family atmosphere
  • Develop strategies to promote staff retention
Policies and Procedures:
  • Be aware of and carry out Board of Education policies
  • Establish a School Improvement Team and be an integral part of developing, implementing, and reviewing the school improvement plan
  • Conduct fire drills as required by law and inspect the property for potential fire and safety hazards
  • Report certain discipline acts to the superintendent and law enforcement as required by law
  • Review the student handbook annually and make needed updates
  • Make students and parents aware of the Student Code of Conduct
  • Consistent implementation/administration of school and district policies and procedures
Managerial:
  • Develop appropriate schedules (bell schedule, class schedule, 2-hour delay schedule, duty schedule, etc.)
