Press Operator Overview

Under the direction of the VP Manufacturing or Department Supervisor, the operator oversees hourly employees to ensure the production of the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost, while meeting company standards for quality and performance, customer specifications and delivery requirements, in accordance with Pregis policies and procedures. Must have the technical ability to operate all types of full converting line and finishing equipment within Pregis standards for waste, quality, and productivity.

Understands and adheres to all standard operating procedures. Sets up and operates all special functions and capabilities with minimal supervision. Trains other employees when requested or required. Analyzes issues, determines solutions and implements them. Provides innovative and creative solutions for opportunities and improvements.

Classification: Full-Time Hourly

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

Shifts: Days 6 PM–6 AM based on a 2‑2‑3 schedule (overtime as needed based on business needs).

Compensation & Growth: Competitive starting pay of $18‑$21 hr, with potential to earn up to $32 hr as you advance.

Responsibilities
  • Consistently demonstrates leadership qualities and directs crews in the efficient operation of the company's production equipment.
  • Reads and understands all information on job tickets, ensures all necessary components are present, and does not proceed with jobs that contain conflicting information.
  • Uses strong inline finishing skills to achieve print quality and register equipment, meeting required M/R standards.
  • Has complete understanding and ability to operate all line ancillary equipment.
  • Sets up and operates all inline equipment (gluing, labeling, Straub applicators, rotary cutter) with minimal supervision.
  • Understands tension controls and ancillary equipment; knows how to web the line and set cylinders and plates; can perform minor mechanical repairs and adjustments.
  • Operates line systems efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains 100 % of standards for productivity, waste and quality; accurately records all codes for quantities, materials and times on required paperwork.
  • Accurately tracks line counts.
  • Creates an environment for learning and process improvement, continuously seeking efficiencies to reduce waste and increase production within quality standards.
  • Works within all safety guidelines, keeps a clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Complies with all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Communicates effectively across shifts to maintain seamless hand‑offs.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum 1 year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience driving a sit‑down forklift.
Environment
  • Exposure to moving equipment.
  • Work inside the plant.
  • Heat may exceed 90 °F.
  • Humidity may exceed 80 %.
  • Noise may exceed 85 dB.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required.
Physical Characteristics
  • Frequent standing, stooping, and sitting.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 50 lbs).
  • Occasional typing/keyboarding.
