What’s your day like?As a General Operator at JT Russell & Sons, you will have the opportunity to safely operate various pieces of equipment to achieve precise location and grading as outlined in the plans. Your role will be crucial in delivering high-quality finished products on Highway Projects. In addition to operating equipment, you must be willing to adapt and perform other duties as directed by the grading foreman.
This position requires a proactive and safety-conscious individual who is eager to learn and grow within our energetic and professional team.
A valid driver's license or commercial license is preferred for this onsite role in Conover, NC.
Requirements for this Grading Operator jobTo excel in this role at JT Russell & Sons, candidates must possess a strong foundation in operating earth-moving equipment such as dozers and backhoes, with at least 2 years of experience in the field. Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and safety standards is crucial, along with the ability to maintain, inspect, and clean equipment efficiently. The successful candidate will demonstrate a keen eye for detail, situational awareness, and a conscientious work ethic to uphold a safe working environment.
Physical capabilities, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 90 pounds, and navigating uneven surfaces, are essential.
Prior experience in grading, reading grade stakes and plans, and a respectful demeanor towards colleagues, customers, and the public are highly valued. Flexibility in working hours, teamwork, and self-motivation are key attributes for thriving in this position.
- 2+ years experience working with earth moving equipment, e.g., dozer, backhoe, etc.
- Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment as well as safety standards
- Keen attention to detail and situational awareness to maintain the safety of the work environment
- Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment
- Willing to perform some manual labor as needed and directed by supervisor
- Normal start time 6:30 am however flexible hours required
- Reliable transportation to and from the Conover Office
