Role Overview
Harmer is actively recruiting for our Oil & Gas client for an experienced, hands‑on Accounting Manager to lead day‑to‑day accounting operations while managing a small team in a fast‑scaling environment. This is a true accounting leadership role for someone who can both execute and lead, with responsibility for core accounting functions and direct support of the Controller and executive leadership team.
This position is approximately 70% hands‑on and 30% people management
, overseeing a team of approximately six across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, and Treasury.
- Lead and support daily accounting operations across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, and Treasury
- Independently manage and drive the month‑end close
- Oversee Percentage‑of‑Completion (POC) accounting
- Coordinate payroll‑related accounting support
- Assist with audit preparation and support
- Review and improve accounting processes, controls, and workflows
- Partner closely with the Controller and executive leadership in a high‑growth environment
- Provide direct leadership, guidance, and development to the accounting team
- Help strengthen and scale the accounting function to support continued company growth
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA preferred
, but not required - Candidates who are actively pursuing the CPA
, CPA‑eligible
, or have passed sections of the CPA exam will be considered - Prior experience in an Accounting Manager role with direct people leadership required
- Strong ERP and systems background; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is highly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Background in small‑to‑mid‑sized companies preferred
- Experience in private equity‑backed and/or high‑growth environments strongly preferred
- Proven ability to build, rebuild, or scale an accounting function
- Comfortable operating as both a doer and leader
- Able to quickly step in, add value, and support a growing business with minimal ramp‑up time
The ideal candidate is a proven Accounting Manager who has already led teams and owned core accounting functions in a fast‑paced environment. This is not a step‑up role for someone growing into management. We are looking for a leader who can roll up their sleeves, bring structure, and make an immediate impact.
