POSITION TITLE:

District Wide Community-Based Job Coach

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Assist professional staff serving students needing unique strategies and interventions for academic, social or personal growth in a community work-based learning program.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Represent and serve students from multiple campuses in CISD with community employers.

* Utilize personal transportation to job sites in a punctual and reliable manner.

* Ride District transportation to and from job sites with students.

* Train/retrain campus-based job coaches for student specific needs.

* Encourage student to socialize with co-workers and model appropriate ways to do so.

* Perform a task analysis for specific job duties as needed.

* Analyze the job to be performed and then implement systematic instruction and data collection.

* Model procedures at the job site to teach required job and related skills to a student worker.

* Assist in preparing or organizing materials for job training.

* Explain training techniques and involve supervisors and co-workers in training.

* Be able to become proficient in students' communication methods and strategies.

* Work with teacher to determine effective strategies for fading the job coaches' assistance while maintaining acceptable worker output.

* Act as a troubleshooter and/or liaison to problem-solve situations that the student might encounter.

* Assist students with personal care needs who may require help with feeding, dressing, bathroom needs or personal hygiene.

* Assist students with physical needs who may require transferring to and from wheelchairs, and/or lifting and positioning.

* Assist students with behavioral needs who may require physical guidance, physical restraint or other strategies used in non-violent crisis intervention.

* Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students and parents.

* Maintain confidentiality.

* Promote a positive attitude in reference to the school district in community settings.

* Sensitive to the mental, physical, emotional and social needs of a student with a disability.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

* Experience working with students in secondary school settings

* Experience working as a job coach in community settings

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

* High School diploma or GED

* Valid Texas educational aide certificate (must obtain within 30 days of employment)

* CPI Certification (must obtain within 90 days of employment)

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

* Ability to work with students with disabilities

* Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

* Ability to communicate effectively

* Ability to perform tasks as assigned with flexibility to adapt to change

* Ability to become proficient in students' communication methods and strategies

* Assist in maintaining a positive work environment

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. May be required to lift/position students with physical needs, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; interpret policy, procedures and data. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, as well as walking up and down stairs.

PAY GRADE: IS-4 - Minimum hourly rate - $17.00
