Itinerant Teacher/Bilingual Special Education

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide students served through both bilingual and special education programs with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to allow students to access enrolled grade level curriculum.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the District's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.

* Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and include crosslinguistic practices to bridge the languages.

* Produce and/or translate instructional resources to support the state of Texas Spanish Language Arts curriculum and the CISD's One-Way Dual Language Bilingual Program model.

* Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board policies, and administrative regulations.

* Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

* Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.

* Work cooperatively with general education and special education teachers to modify/accommodate curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

* Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to District requirements.

* Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEP through the ARD Committee process for each student assigned.

* Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

* Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.

* Present subject matter effectively and according to guidelines established by the IEP.

* Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media including technology to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned, adhering to the District's philosophy of instruction.

* Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.

* Facilitate teachers' understanding and awareness of appropriate techniques and methodologies benefiting bilingual students.

* Assist teachers with implementation of accommodations recommended for success in the classroom environment.

* Monitor identified special education students for continued progress on IEPs.

* Collaborate with teachers and appraisal personnel in the development of IEPs.

* Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials that best meet the needs of students served through both bilingual and special education.

* Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.

* Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

* Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.

* Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the District.

* Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, student handbook and IEP.

* Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

* Establish and maintain open of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.

* Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

* Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

* Maintain confidentiality of information.

* Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
