Job DescriptionPurpose and Scope: The teaching faculty provides learning activities and support that lead to achievement of course objectives and contributes to the educational environment. The primary responsibilities are to plan, develop, and teach courses within the curriculum and facilitate student learning. CE adjunct faculty are hired part‑time on a semester‑by‑semester basis, contingent upon student demand. Adjuncts may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.
EssentialJob Functions
- Teach courses in the Certified Personal Trainer Program under Continuing Education.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the curriculum and program growth.
- Comply with ACE (American Council on Exercise) requirements and provide exam support to candidates.
- Teach courses at a variety of times and locations.
- Submit timely required college reports and forms.
- Develop and utilize a course syllabus for each course in accordance with institutional guidelines.
- Advise students in academic matters.
- Provide timely, quality access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.
- Evaluate students by a variety of means to measure progress toward course objectives and inform them of their progress.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Perform other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

- Demonstrated leadership skills with a collaborative, teamwork‑oriented style.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with diverse individuals.
- Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies such as collaborative learning, learning communities, and distance learning.
- Commitment to academic excellence and a dynamic climate for lifelong learning.
- Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches including service learning, civic engagement, learning communities, and effective technology use.
- Ability to engage students in learning through effective strategies.
- Activities requiring fine finger movements, holding, and handling of light objects up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to receive and process detailed oral information accurately.
- Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Capacity to convey detailed instructions clearly, loudly, or quickly.
- Excellent visual acuity for tasks such as reading, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
- Equipment includes a PC workstation operating on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and general office equipment.
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the position’s functions.
- Work performed in a climate‑controlled office with minimal safety hazards.
- Class hours vary; instructors must be available for all scheduled classes and student communication outside instruction.
- PFit, ACE, or NASM Certified Personal Trainer.
- At least three years of related work experience in the field.
$55.44 per contact hour.
