Job Description
Purpose and Scope: The responsibility of the teaching faculty is to provide learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.
Adjunct faculty are hired in a part‑time capacity on a semester‑by‑semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the system. Adjunct (part‑time) faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.
Essential Job Functions- Teach Human Services courses (CMSW, DAAC, GERS, SCWK) at various times and locations.
- Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of material.
- Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
- Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following institutional guidelines.
- Meet with and advise students before or after class, by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
- Evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and inform students timely of their progress.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
- Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.
- Mastery of course content.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with emphasis on collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people.
- Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies.
- Commitment to academic excellence and exceptional service.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning, learning communities, and effective use of technology.
- Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning.
The work is sedentary with occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required.
Work Schedule and Conditions- Use of PC workstation on a LAN, Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other office equipment.
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed.
- Work in a climate‑controlled classroom/lab environment with minimal safety hazards.
- Hours and class times vary; instructors must be available to students outside of class instruction.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a human services area (psychology, counseling, social work, or human services), 3 years non‑teaching work experience in the field, and appropriate license.
$55.44 per contact hour.
