Job Title
Coordinator of Middle School Language Arts (5‑8)
Job DescriptionDevelop, coordinate, and manage the district’s programs in Middle School Language Arts for grades 5‑8. Serve as an instructional leader in the development and improvement of instructional programs in these areas. Provide leadership in the analysis of assessment data and student performance to create an exemplary curriculum and provide training in research‑based instructional practices.
Duties and Responsibilities- Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum and instructional programs with teachers and principals, to include learning objectives, instructional strategies, performance objectives, and assessment techniques.
- Utilize district studies, research, and research‑based programs to improve curriculum, instruction, and staff development.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to evaluate, select, and manage textbooks, instructional materials, and equipment in alignment with board policy and the state Instructional Material Review and Approval (IMRA) process.
- Encourage and support the appropriate integration of technology in the teaching and learning process.
- Recommend and implement policies, regulations, and procedures; prepare and maintain reports and descriptive statistics for the assigned discipline area.
- Collaborate with special programs (Bilingual/ESL, Special Education, 504, Gifted and Talented) to support and improve students’ outcomes.
- Consult and collaborate effectively with principals, assistant principals, teachers, team leaders, department chairs, parents, and community stakeholders, communicate district instructional goals and objectives of the assigned discipline area.
- Monitor, interpret, report, and apply student achievement data to drive program evaluation and improvement.
- Develop and recommend course offerings as appropriate.
- Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources and grant funding to support curriculum development and staff needs.
- Provide and support effective professional learning aligned with district goals, program evaluations, and stakeholder input.
- Assist with T‑TESS and provide support to principals regarding personnel, as requested.
- Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, board policy related to the assigned discipline area.
- Define, recommend, and manage the instructional program’s fiscal needs, including budget development and responsible fiscal control.
- Recommend space, equipment, and facilities necessary for program implementation and oversee the organization, distribution, and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
- Ensure that teacher expectations and student management practices are effective, developmentally appropriate, and support a positive learning environment and student self‑esteem.
- Stay informed of current research, trends, and best practices; disseminate information to others and demonstrate ongoing professional growth.
- Adhere to professional and ethical standards and maintain active participation in professional organizations.
- Communicate district curriculum, instructional practices, staff development initiatives, accomplishments, and goals to parents and the community; solicit community input on curriculum and instructional issues.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Five years of successful classroom teaching experience in content area and grade levels assigned preferred.
- One year of successful instructional leadership experience which includes facilitating and/or working with teams (i.e., team leader, campus instructional coach, curriculum writing teams, etc.).
- Experience in professional development presentations.
- Experience in development of curriculum, implementation, and evaluation.
- Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and/or related field preferred.
- Teacher certificate of the content area assigned.
- Instructional Leadership Training (ILT) or Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL), or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- District approved teacher appraisal system, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
