Adjunct Faculty, English

Adjunct teaching faculty are responsible for providing planning, development, and instruction of courses that meet curriculum objectives and support the educational environment of the college and community. Classes are offered in a part‑time capacity on a semester‑by‑semester basis, with a maximum of five courses per academic year.

• Teach English courses at a variety of times and locations.
• Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.
• Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
• Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
• Meet with and advise students before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
• Evaluate students to measure progress toward course objectives and inform students timely of their progress.
• Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
• Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.

The work is sedentary; typical duties include sitting, walking, standing, bending, carrying light items such as papers and books, and possibly driving. No special physical demands are required.

• Use a PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment.
• Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out functions of the position.
• Work is performed in a climate‑controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
• Hours vary by class time; instructors must be available to students outside of class instruction.

• Master’s degree in English, literature, creative writing, or a related field with at least 18 graduate hours in English, literature, creative writing, or rhetoric‑composition studies.

$55.44 per contact hour.
