Overview
Implement the District Comprehensive Guidance Plan responding to the unique needs of the individual student.
Responsibilities- Develops a campus-Level College and Career Advisement Plan based on identified school needs—includes activities identified in the District’s Developmental Guidance Plan.
- Assists individual students in demonstrating self-confidence in reaching educational goals.
- Confers with students, parents, and teachers when needed.
- Conducts individual student and parent conferences.
- Conducts small group guidance sessions for students with special interests.
- Maintains and distributes materials concerning career investigation, college and financial aid application processes, scholarships and college testing registration and procedures.
- Assists in school transition activities (Gr. 8 – Post-High School).
- Provides orientation sessions for parents.
- Provides college day/night, career day/night, and financial aid workshops.
- Adheres to timelines and procedures.
- Meets deadlines as established by the District.
- Maintains calendar schedule of school and counselor activities.
- Attends required District in-service and staff meetings.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of the District College Night.
- Works with District Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling and other College and Career Center counselors to provide a seamless flow of information and assistance to students and their families.
- Keeps accurate records of student where students are applying to and eventually attending college/university, community college or trade school.
- Keeps accurate records of scholarship recipients.
- Maintains appropriate student records.
- Keeps entire counseling team apprised of new developments in career and college information.
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships.
- Cooperates with and supports faculty and staff.
- Demonstrates self-control and exhibits overall positive approach.
- Promotes positive self-image in students.
- Treats students consistently and empathetically.
- Initiates procedure to analyze and modify, as necessary, performance of duties based on self-analysis, feedback from students and interactions with colleagues.
- Maintains and improves professional competence through reading, course work, and professional activities.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Experience working with students in an educational setting or with school-aged children.
- Experience supporting students/school-aged children in crisis situations.
- Master’s Degree
- Professional school counselor’s certificate
- Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, career development and college and financial aid application process
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and experience with various testing instruments
- Knowledgeable about secondary academic curriculum
