POSITION TITLE:
Behavior Interventionist
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Serve as a Special Education District behavior interventionist and staff developer for the Department of Special Education in the assigned area.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Help to plan, implement, and provide behavior support to students receiving special education services.
* Assist teachers, at their request, in organizing, revising, and implementing behavior intervention supports and interventions.
* Consult with district Behavior Specialist and BCBAs regarding behavior interventions and materials.
* Assist in the planning and delivery of staff development opportunities to help raise the level of behavioral performance for students.
* Support appropriate use of technology in the teaching/learning process for students.
* Recommend ways in which behavior instruction can be adjusted to meet the special learning needs of struggling learners.
* Participate in proposed and on-going behavior projects.
* Perform classroom visitations and demonstrations for teachers and/or administrators.
* Work with individuals and committees on topics regarding behavior.
* Inform teachers and administrators of major trends and developments in behavior.
* Prepare necessary inventories, budget requests, and similar documents.
* Lead the implementation and revision of behavior plans.
* Work with students and model behavior instruction as needed.
* Consult positively and effectively with principals, teachers, assistant principals, team leaders, department chairs.
* Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution.
* Communicate district instructional goals and objectives of the assigned discipline area to administrators, department chairs, and lead teachers, as appropriate.
* Monitor student achievement data in the area of special education and interpret, report, and act on results.
* Serve as a mentor to guide and build capacity of the department chairs, lead teachers and other campus staff with the guidance from the coordinator.
* Provide effective professional learning activities by using district/department goals, program evaluations, and teacher and administrator input.
* Implement the policies established by Federal and State law, State Board of Education rules, and Board policy as pertains to the assigned discipline area.
* Recommend space, equipment, instructional materials, and facilities necessary for the implementation of approved programs.
* Supervise the organization, distribution, and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment as appropriate.
* Seek grant funding as pertains to the assigned discipline area.
* Maintain fiscal responsibilities as it pertains to the special education budget.
* Ensure that teacher expectations are effective in furthering the teaching/learning process and environment.
* Support the District and campus procedures that enhance positive self-esteem.
* Communicate student management procedures to teachers for an appropriate special education classroom environment.
* Stay informed of research, disseminate ideas to other professionals, identify trends and opportunities and apply this information as appropriate.
* Demonstrate steps taken for professional growth.
* Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards.
* Communicate District curriculum, instructional and staff development practices in the area of special education, as well as accomplishments, goals, and instructional initiatives to parents and others in the community.
* Maintain regular attendance.
* Maintain confidentiality.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
* Three years successful classroom teaching experience required
* Experience in staff development presentations required
* Experience in facilitating and/or working with teams (i.e., team leader, curriculum writing teams, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
* Bachelor's degree in education and/or relevant content area
* Valid Texas teaching certificate
* Valid Texas teaching certificate for special education
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
* Working knowledge of functions of behavior, behavior intervention strategies, and staff development for behavior
* Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
* Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
* Strong knowledge of behavioral strategies for students with disabilities
* Ability to evaluate behavioral programs and teaching effectiveness
