Job DescriptionPurpose and scope:
Tutors and instructs students and community members who need learning assistance in assigned discipline(s) and study skills. Responsibilities include providing tutoring, creating a conducive learning environment, and supporting student academic learning.
- Effectively deliver tutoring services at scheduled times (individual or group sessions).
- Maintain a weekly schedule of available hours for student appointments.
- Assist students with the development of study skills necessary for post‑secondary education.
- Keep accurate, regular records of tutoring sessions.
- Monitor and review student work, modifying and personalizing tutoring strategies to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
- Encourage students to take responsibility for their progress.
- Obtain necessary course syllabi or materials from LSC staff or faculty and develop supporting tutoring materials.
- Deliver appropriate feedback to staff or faculty regarding student progress.
- Continue professional education through research and review of relevant material related to the assigned subject matter.
- Assist with additional duties as needed, such as covering the Courtesy Counter, answering phones, organizing materials, checking out resources, or performing other assigned duties.
- Complete and submit required documents accurately and timely.
- Actively participate in departmental meetings as required.
- Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the assigned discipline’s subject matter.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Commitment to quality service to students.
- Ability and commitment to work collaboratively.
- Ability to work independently with little direct or continuous supervision.
The work is sedentary with occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, or driving. No special physical demands are required to perform the job.
Work Schedule and Conditions- Use computer equipment operating in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and general office equipment.
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the position’s functions.
- Work in a climate‑controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Transcripts and/or a proficiency test may be required.
Hourly Pay Rate: $15.60 to $28.90.
