JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for completing full and individual evaluations of students, including emotional/behavioral evaluations, for emotional disability, autism evaluations and evaluations of ADD/ADHD to recommend disability conditions and the need for special education services to the ARD Committee. Provide written reports and interprets test results for students, parents and school staff. Provides consultation to school staff regarding preventions and/or intervention strategies for students with behavioral problems that impact school performance.
Attends initial and reevaluation ARD committee meetings and assists in the development of the student’s IEP and BIP.
- Select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of referred students. Determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations. Develop emotional/behavioral reports and behavior intervention plans.
- Complete associated documentation for and/or participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
- Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results.
- Conduct individual and/or group counseling sessions as directed by the IEP.
- Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students, interpretation of assessment data, and implementation of behavior intervention plans in managing the emotional/behavioral needs of students.
- Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed.
- Consult with staff on manifestation determination reviews (MDR) and threat assessments.
- Provide staff training to enable school personnel to identify and work more effectively with students with emotional, social, and behavioral disabilities.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data, and evaluation protocols.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision and feedback regarding job performance.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Successful completion of school psychology practicums prior to internship
- Verified enrollment in a school psychology internship course for the applicable internship term
- Knowledge of administration and interpretation of appropriate evaluation instruments
- Knowledge of public laws and district procedures regarding special education
- Maintaining two‑way communication between various stakeholders
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
- Posture: Frequent sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension
- Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), occasional heaving lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint; assisting non-ambulatory students
- Environment: May require district wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure
PAY GRADE: AE - 2 - Minimum pro-rated salary - $68,771
